Ok, this isn’t our first Easter as a family. In fact, we celebrate it every year in most traditional ways – church, giant family dinner, egg hunt, etc. – but, this year was different. This is the first year that both our girls were old enough to participate in the big egg hunt and, more importantly, color eggs with us! When I was a little girl, the big thrill for me was to color eggs with my mom and brother. Mom would take a few of the colored eggs and draw on them with fine point markers. She could draw such beautiful flowers and scenery on the eggs that it didn’t seem right to ever crack them and make egg salad with them. These were the coveted eggs in the egg hunt; they were so ornate and waaayy prettier than what my brother or I could create!! One year, I found out the hard way that is just didn’t do the beautiful eggs justice to keep it and hide it in my room so it wouldn’t meet it’s untimely death. Still pretty, but whew….what a smell!
So, now I get to experience the egg-coloring tradition with my kids. While we didn’t get out the fancy markers, we did have tons of fun making a mess of it all. Stella was fascinated with the colored water and what it did to the eggs.

Some of our "treasures"
Eliza didn’t actually color the eggs, but she did sit with us at the table and play with her Easter toys. Come to think of it, I did let her hold a finished egg, but promptly put it in her mouth and chewed on it. Yes, she had a colorful mouth for a few hours until it wore off.

Eliza observes the coloring process.
She is so proud of this egg. Who knew stickers could be so much fun!

While all this was fun, we never did make any food with those eggs. Once we made them, they went in a box in the fridge where they still sit… Thank goodness it’s almost trash day.
Part Two – The Egg Hunt
What is an Easter celebration without throwing in a few of the egg hunt photos.

Eliza finds her first egg!

She just told me her basket was too heavy!

She's searching very hard...her tongue is sticking out!
I wish you well and hope you can enjoy your family traditions as much as we do!

So sweet. Thanks for sharing your day and memories of coloring eggs with your mom and brother…made me smile and think about my egg coloring days.
